We are proud to announce that the 3rd Annual Fish Alaska Magazine’s Reader Recipe Contest was a major success. Bringing together talent from around the state to showcase their cooking skills by creating some of Alaska’s most creative and flavorful seafood dishes.
And the winner is . . . Tom West of Juneau, Alaska with his recipe for Crustacean Pepper Pot. This dish is good enough that you should grab paper and pen, make the grocery list, and get to work on this recipe right now.
We had a lot of remarkable entries last year. Amazingly all four finalists were from Alaska. They are Jim Trombley of Kenai with his Prosciutto-Wrapped Halibut; Dave Roman of Valdez who prepared his Kodiak Style Bacon Wrapped Halibut Cheeks; Ruth Anne O’Gorman of Kodiak made her Cajun Style King Crab Bisque; and of course our winner Tom West from Juneau.
Each of the finalists received a prize package from our generous sponsors and the grand prize that Tom earned was valued at over $10,000 including a lodge stay at Bear Trail Lodge on the Naknek River and a Frigidaire Barbecue from Allen & Petersen’s Cooking & Appliance Center.
The party at Kincaid Grill was bigger and better than ever. Wendell and Wendi of The Kenai River Brewing Co. poured a variety of their beers and all of the guests were invited to taste a sample of each of the finalist dishes and munch on the spread my best girls, Cristy, Taleen and I put out.
We will have a private affair at the Kincaid Grill on September 28, 2008 where the next four gourmets will delight us with their Alaska Seafood. We are honored to have Governor Sarah Palin as a judge along with Chef Al, myself and Marcus. The Kenai River Brewing Co. will be back with their awesome beer. The Grand Prize includes a four-day trip to Ocean View Lodge in Old Harbor with roundtrip air from ERA Aviation and Island Air Service, a $1000 shopping spree at Allen & Petersen’s, and a whole lot more! All finalists will receive a package totaling over $1400 including fishing on the Kenai with Northstar Adventures, a gift card to Allure Day Spa & Hair Design and a pair of Habervision polarized sunglasses.
