Big Agnes Kids Ice House HoodieBigAgnes_Coat.jpg

This is by some distance the warmest kid’s coat we’ve ever tested. At 800 fill down, it is suitable for a day out on the ice with your toddler, and if you pair it with a good set of snow pants and quality base layers, your little one should stay warm.

Our young tester stayed toasty-warm in this polyester fleece top. He used it in active pursuits and reported that it fit well and wasn’t restrictive. It also worked well as the base layer on cold mornings on the river.

These little neoprene waders might possibly be the cutest things on the planet and they are also really functional and versatile. With a built-in rubber boot, these waders are great for the rainiest camping spots and the muddiest days in Alaska. Perfect for fishing your toddlers and bigger kids, even if not fishing, as they’re ideal for riding four-wheelers and generally traipsing around in the mud.

Marmot Boys Rincon HoodyMarmot-Boys-Rincon-Hoody.jpg

This hoody is light, comfortable and striking in color, making it one of the favorites of Charlie Weiner in 2016. Hand-warmer pockets helped get fingers warmed up after holding big, cold Nushagak Chinook, and the hood was utilized while motoring between runs.

KEEN Little Kid’s Pagosa Low WP Keen-Little-Kids-Pagosa-Low-WP.jpg
www.keenfootwear.com
This is a good, quality, waterproof hiking shoe for your kids, as attested to by one of our junior field-testers. It’s got a beefy sole that allowed him to hike in steep, rocky terrain and it’s easy for him to get them on and off thanks to a speed-lacing system that eliminates the need to tie the laces.

Bogs Classic Animals Kids Insulated Boots BogsKidsAnimals.jpg
www.bogsfootwear.com
One of our tiny 2-year-old field testers wants to wear these boots no matter the weather, and that’s just fine since these boots are rated to -30°.

Mustang Survival Lil’ Legends 70 Youth Vest Mustang-Survival-Lil’-Legends-70-Youth-Vest.jpg
www.mustangsurvival.com
Our 6-year-old tester reports that the PFD is comfortable to wear and the he thinks the camo pattern is cool. We’ve noticed that when we outfit our kids in similar products as ourselves they then feel more like they are part of the team and want to fish and hunt even more. And that’s good for all of us. Mustang improved on this proven design by making it easier for kids to move while wearing it and by helping them cool off quicker with the addition of a cooling-channeled rear panel. Three sizes are available to accommodate kids to 90 pounds.

Simms Kid’s Gore-Tex Stockingfoot WaderSimms_Kids_GORE-TEX_wader.jpg
www.simmsfishing.com
This is a basic wader for your kids that should keep them dry and on the water. We like that the knees and seat sport reinforced fabric as our young testers are not easy on gear. These waders should last long enough to be handed down to younger siblings.

www.qiviut.com
Soft and warm, this is an heirloom item for your family and a performance piece for your kiddos. They are high quality and worth the cost and the Qiviut stretches so it grows with your child for several years. We prefer 100% qiviut because of the stretch but they also offer a pattern design which is 80% qiviut and 20% silk.

Grundéns Kids Clipper Jacket & BibsGrundens_CLIPPER_HOODED_JACKET.jpg

Our kiddos loved being decked-out just like the adults on our boating adventures in 2016. Made with typical Grundéns quality, the Clipper jacket and bibs performed admirably and feature a detachable hood, raglan sleeves and covered snaps and a storm flap, while the bibs are cut chest-high with speed-lock fasteners.

Oakiwear-Childrens-Winter-Puffy-Jacket.jpgOakiwear Children’s Winter Puffy Jacket OakiwearKidsJacket.jpg
www.oakiwear.com
The coat is warm and water-resistant, and when you take your kids on the water, we recommend you bring something like this. You may be able to handle fishing in a t-shirt, but the little ones need more clothes and this is a good choice. The 100% polyester coat has an attached hood and adjustable toggles, and is available in sizes from 2T to 10/11.

Obermeyer Ultragear 100 Micro Zip T and TightObermeyer-Ultragear-100-Micro-Zip-T-and-Tight.jpg
www.obermeyer.com
This set is warm, soft and lightweight, making it an ideal bottom layer when it’s cold or a top layer on warmer days. The fleece is water-resistant with an interior wind-guard, which we really like as the little ones tend to get cold in the wind. The top has a ¼-zip that aids in taking it on and off; we also like that it’s not a full-zip, as that’s hard for kids to manage. Our 1½-year-old-tester couldn’t articulate his thoughts on the product, but we could tell he was warm and cozy.

www.allgoodproducts.com
This all-natural sunscreen offers protection from UVA and UVB rays, is very water-resistant and is certified organic. It’s made from six ingredients: zinc oxide, organic coconut oil, organic beeswax, organic calendula flowers infused in organic jojoba oil, and vitamin E.  You have to have sunscreen for the kids under Alaska’s midnight sun.

Fox River Snow Day SocksFoxRiverKidsSnowDaySocks.jpg
www.foxsox.com
Our youngest field-testers were big fans of these soft Merino wool over-the-calf socks, and so were their parents, as the socks helped keep the little ones warm and comfortable on the boat and in the field, allowing for more time outside, and the wool helps to wick moisture vapors and reduce odor.

www.hotchillys.com

www.hellyhansen.com
Offering a clean and attractive Helly Hansen design, this kid’s shell features fully waterproof fabric and fully seam-sealed construction to create an all-weather protection winner. Breathability enables high activity and comfort since moisture is not trapped on the inside, helping to make this the jacket our youngsters reached for when heading out last year.
