What could be better than landing your big Alaskan fish? Holding a fishing derby ticket that could net you thousands of dollars in prizes. Alaska is known for its world-class fishing but without one of these derby tickets you are just another fish story. So, we at Fish Alaska magazine decided to help you achieve a possible cash windfall by providing a list of fishing derbies from around the state. 	Ketchikan King Salmon Derby May 24, 2008 - June 8, 2008 This derby is weekends only: May 24-26,31 & June 1,7,8 2008.
	Kodiak Peace Cup King Salmon Sportfishing Tournament May 16, 2008 - July 6, 2008 First place is over $5,000 with prizes totaling more than $10,000.
	Mat-Su King Salmon Derby May 20, 2008 - July 13, 2008
	Mat-Su Pike Fishing Derby March 1, 2008 - March 30, 2008 The Houston Chamber of Commerce and Houston Lions Club are sponsoring the 2008 Mat-Su Pike Derby. Contestants are encouraged to keep all the pike they catch. A current Alaska Fishing License is required. Prizes will be awarded for several categories including smallest catch and most pike caught, in total weight. Make sure to enter the drawing for a 5 day Caribbean Cruise.

	Soldotna Hardware Ice Fishing Derby February 1, 2008 - February 29, 2008
	Valdez Halibut Derby May 24, 2008 - August 31, 2008
	Valdez Kids Pink Salmon Derby July 19, 2008 - July 19, 2008 The event is one day only Saturday, July 19th. There are 4 age divisions to compete in: 5 to 7; 8 to 10; 11 to 13 and 14 to 16 with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes. The first 100 fish weighed in will get a Kids Pink Salmon Derby t-shirt. Everyone who weighs in a fish will get a free ticket to the Kids Pink Salmon Derby Barbecue at 5pm. Salmon weigh-in is from 10am to 5pm at Valdez Fish Derbies weight station.
