Pink Salmon
For pink salmon in the Susitna system, even years are generally best, but even then the distances these fish travel before reaching fishable water mean they're well on their way to developing their distinct spawning morphology by the time anglers get a crack.
The runs peak from mid-July through mid-August, with the Little Su being one of the prime hot spots.
Another noteworthy producer of pinks is Montana Creek, with anglers able to spread out and fish the river's many upstream holes and runs or congregate near the mouth, easily accessible via a trail from the Parks Highway bridge. The river tends to keep its shape and water clarity despite the weather, often making it the best option for salmon anglers when other Parks Highway streams are blown out or muddied by inclement weather.
