These are the best boots for hiking and outdoor footwear in 2020
XTRATUF Men’s Leather 6-Inch Ankle Deck Boot
These over-the-ankle boots are breathable, with great insoles that add comfort and allow the user to wear these all day. They include well-designed loops for ease of sliding boots on. The slip-resistant, non-marking tread is greatly appreciated and the waterproof leather looks great.
Bogs Women’s Rainboot Solid
These were very comfortable and were easy to wear all day long. They have good grip and traction on the tread. Our tester appreciates the handles crafted into the top of the boot for ease of putting them on and off.
XTRATUF Women’s Salmon Sisters 6-Inch Ankle Deck Boot
This boot is 100% waterproof, has anti-microbial moisture wicking, front and back pull tabs, a comfortable insole, and is slip resistant. The neoprene lining and the front and back loops make this boot extremely easy to get on and off. The color and salmon design is striking. Our tester constantly gets compliments about these. They are comfortable, the sole is sturdy and provides good traction.
Muck Boots Men’s Arctic Ice Mid
These are quality boots, sturdy and well made for year-round use. Our tester appreciated the comfort in summer and warmth and great traction in the snow and ice. These boots are fleece lined and very comfortable; the shorter length makes them well suited for a wide variety of applications. The neoprene top is especially appreciated by our tester for comfort and ease of removal.
XTRATUF Women’s Salmon Sisters Mermaid Life 15-Inch Legacy Boot
XTRATUF Legacy boots are the finest fishing boots on the market, and many of our testers will testify to that fact. This version, built specifically to fit women, also features a mermaid-pattern print on the liner of the boot, designed by the Salmon Sisters, and they are really cute. Key features of this 100% waterproof boot include: a slip-resistant chevron outsole, triple-dipped shell which creates extra-tough and watertight footwear, and hand-layered construction which adds flexibility and increases comfort, while also increasing strength.
LaCrosse Women’s Alpha Range
Our tester likes the feel and performance of this 12-inch-tall work boot. It combines rubber and neoprene for warmth and performance in wet conditions. Features include a jersey-knit liner that is quick to dry and wicks moisture, integrated kick-off plate, and neoprene gusset. They are one of the most comfortable rubber boots available.
Lowa Renegade GTX Mid WS
Crafted for any terrain, these boots provide good traction and repel water. Our tester appreciates the quality of these boots. They are attractive, durable and easy to lace. The craftsmanship is excellent; they are made to last. These are great for hiking in a variety of weather conditions, and are comfortable and breathable.
FisheWear Groovy Grayling XTRATUF 15-Inch Legacy Boots
Combining the unequaled performance of XTRATUF Legacy boots with the style of FisheWear’s Groovy Grayling pattern made these a smash hit with our tester in 2019. Melissa Norris had this to say, “FisheWear and XTRATUF are two of my favorite brands, and both are so well suited to Alaska that this partnership is a perfect match. I love these boots!” Rock the FisheWear pattern while staying warm, dry and secure no matter the conditions. These are the first XTRATUFs in black!
HOKA ONE ONE Men’s Speedgoat Mid Gore-Tex 2
HOKA is known for their supportive footwear, and these definitely live up to the company’s reputation. These boots somehow manage to feel incredibly stable, supportive, and rugged, while also feeling lightweight, flexible, and comfortable. Our tester described the sensation as “bouncy” for lack of a better term, and he noticed the all-day comfort these provide.
Kamik Jessie Women’s Rain Boot
These are lightweight and flex well with movement. Our tester likes that they are easy to slide on and off. Unlike other rubber rain boots, they have a soft and comfortable interior. They have an extremely comfortable insole that makes these rainy-day saviors feel more like wearing a sneaker.
Danner Women’s Trail 2650
Our tester loved how light and flexible these hikers are. They were comfortable out of the box. The reinforced heel and the back loop are much appreciated. The toe box is spacious. The shoe is attractive and has become a favorite of our female tester.
Danner Women’s Explorer 650
These hiking boots provide amazing ankle support and are well equipped for mountain hiking. Our tester hiked 3.9 miles with a 2,598-foot elevation change. She would recommend them to anyone who loves to adventure.
KEEN Men’s Howser II
These are one part shoe, one part slipper, and 100% comfortable. Our tester is a big fan of KEEN footwear, and immediately fell in love with how comfortable these shoes are; most likely due to the new KEEN.CUSH technology featuring PU, cork, and memory foam to contour to your feet. The brand refers to them as “indoor/outdoor shoes” online and we agree with that description. These would be at home in camp or on the couch. We found them to be as comfortable as a slipper with the support and rubber outsole of a shoe for versatility.
Kamik Sharon Lo
Our tester liked the ease of slipping these on and off. They are 100% waterproof, so are a good choice on the boat, trail or in muddy conditions during your daily routine. At 6 inches tall and 1.9 pounds per pair, they are easy to take with you to be prepared for wet weather.
