The Alaska Marine Highway System operates as a division of the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities for the State of Alaska. The Marine Highway is an integral part of the State highway infrastructure, transporting people and vehicles to our coastal communities on a year-round basis. The system, which started over 50 years ago, has continued to grow and incorporate new ports of call. Their route is also the only marine route that has been designated a National Scenic Byway and All-American Road.
