2016 IceFishing Derby
On the Ice in Big Lake, February 20 & 21, 2016
Participant Information
The Big Lake Chamber of Commerce proudly invites you to participate in the 6th Annual Big Lake Ice Fishing Derby. This event promotes the sport of fishing to the entire Mat-Su borough community and encourage family’s to participate in a healthy outdoor event. Sport fishing contributes greatly to our economy and to the community. From coffee shops to gas stations, anglers who come out to enjoy our local lakes contribute to the health of our economy.
2016 marks the sixth year of the Ice Derby and once again we expect it to be bigger and better than ever. We had over 300 anglers and expect an even bigger turnout this year. We also paid out more prize money and gave out more prizes from our generous sponsors. The Boat bags were a hit and the bags were gone by 9am. Big Lake Fall Family Fishing Derby is turning in to the Premier still water fishing derby in Alaska.

The Big Lake Chamber of Commerce kicks off its annual (once fall now summer) fishing derby August 6 & 7 with two days of fun and prizes for all ages at Burkeshore Marina in Big Lake.
The family friendly event promotes sport fishing in the Mat-Su Borough community and encourages families to participate in a healthy outdoor event. This year we’ve brought a little extra to the event.
The Big Lake Derbies are designed for anglers of all ages. Cash prizes are awarded to 1st through 3rd place winners in the adult categories: Trout, Dolly & Women’s. Trophies are awarded to youth 1st through 3rd place in both Dolly and Trout categories. There are two age divisions, 10 to 15 & 9 and under. This year Artic Cat has guaranteed an Alterra 400 Four-Wheeler to be awarded to one of the 1st thru 3rd place winners in the adult categories!
The Big Lake Chamber, thanks again to Arctic Cat, has added a tagged fish element to the traditional derby and raffle event. The prizes are going to be fantastic! Arctic Cat has sponsored a prize package valued at $20,000, exclusively for the one who catches the tagged fish.
This year’s raffle prizes include a $500 Gift Certificate from Sportsmen’s Warehouse and a Yukon Rack valued at $375 courtesy of Yukon Rack. Be sure and check out these amazing built- for Alaskan bunk beds on Facebook!
More prizes will be rolling in between now and the derby. There are lots of chances to win big! Remember you don’t have to fish to win and you don’t have to win the top prize to have fun! Arctic Cat will be out there with us offering demo rides.
Thanks to our amazing sponsors for helping to pull off yet another great event!!
