Joe Benigno made the beautiful bench that adorns the lodge Arctic entryway and now he has carved out some time to come visit! His son Jentre caught this sweet 38-inch king this week making for some precious memories.

Ryan Keel caught the largest freshwater fish of his 41 years today earning the first 2021 membership awarded to the 40-inch Club program at the lodge. The 15-minute battle had the king rounding the boat several times as Ryan fought to keep it away from the motor. Fishing guide Erin Schoen netted the monster 42-inch king, maneuvered the boat to the grassy shore, and jumped in to safely release this fish to spawn. Rumor has it she tossed her boots and the water is a bit chilly… For an angler to enter into our 40-inch club the fish must be released to perpetuate the strong genes. We are proud of these exceptional conscientious anglers and their care of these fish!

What an amazing turnout of sockeye. So much so ADFG has increased the daily sockeye salmon limit to 10 per day. In the photo below, Colonel Danny Bransford, along with his grandson Jayden, pose with the catch of the day (4 kings and 10 sockeye) taken by themselves and two boat mates. We are happy to see clients fill in their harvest needs with the abundant resource of red salmon.

Life is good on The Nush. Clients are catching their limits of kings. Then they are having a go at the big push of sockeye that have entered the system fishing from the banks in front of the lodge. It is great to be in Bristol Bay!

We’ve got kings! No, we didn’t need to put a tape on it to know it wasn’t going to make the 40-inch-club, but we are still happy to see salmon. These little jacks add to the action, which adds to the fun. Guide Marc Bush put a line out yesterday, headed in for a yummy lunch made by Chef Chris and after the group had a nice surprise. Soon the days will be filled with smiling anglers and fresh Chinook!
