Alaska’s iconic and historic Iditarod race from Anchorage to Nome makes for an exciting start to our Spring season. The father and son duo, Mitch and Dallas Seavey, have been the ones to beat with their Iditarod race wins these past 6 years in a row. However, the race doesn’t end with the first one to pass the finish line. As the remaining mushers and their teams traverse the trail, the race doesn’t end until the final team closes the race with the extinguishing of the Widow’s Lamp, a symbolic representation that there are no more teams left on the trail and all are accounted for. Here is a glimpse of the people and their tenacious canine teams that keep this sport alive year after year.
