Take the Pledge to Eat Trawl Free

I pledge that my family will make thoughtful choices to protect the ocean — one meal at a time.
Trawl fishing harms marine habitats and disrupts the balance of our oceans, which are essential to life on Earth. Together, we can make a difference by choosing seafood caught with care.

We pledge to avoid seafood caught by trawling, including pollock, commercially wild-caught shrimp and scallops, and Pacific cod and rockfish that we did not catch ourselves or trace back to a non-trawl, sustainable commercial fishing source.

When dining out, we will ask questions about where our seafood comes from and how it was caught. If the source isn’t clear, we will request to see packaging or choose a different option. Because Pacific cod and rockfish served in restaurants often cannot be traced back to the fishing method, we will make choices carefully and thoughtfully.

We pledge to learn about our fisheries — to understand how seafood is harvested, what different fishing methods mean, and how labels like “sustainable” can sometimes be misleading.

We also pledge to share what we learn with kindness, helping friends and family make informed choices about the seafood they eat.

As part of this commitment, we will not:

  • Buy fast food fish sandwiches

  • Purchase fish sticks or other frozen “white fish” products

  • Eat surimi, often labeled as “crab” in sushi restaurants

By taking the Trawl-Free Table Pledge, we commit to protecting ocean ecosystems and supporting fishing practices that respect the planet. Our everyday choices can help ensure healthy oceans for generations to come.
