Made with hydrophobic synthetic materials, the boots are light, fast drying and help reduce the spread of invasive species. Water drains from them rapidly, so you won’t be slogging along the riverbank with heavy, waterlogged boots. They’re sold with a choice of two different sole options: felt and Vibram XS soles, or Vibram XS and Studded XS Trek Soles. Since felt is outlawed in Alaska, the second sole option is the one for us. That said, we put the optional Triple Threat Aluminum Hex Disc soles on ours, since they provide great traction in all wading environments, yet won’t cut up vinyl boat floors. River Ops come with laces, a plus on remote float trips; if you carry a spare set of laces, you’re quickly back in the game. River Ops are also made with a BOA lacing system. In addition to the waterproof interior and large exterior pockets, the waders also feature a handy reach-through handwarmer pocket. Our tester appreciates this pocket for warming her hands after releasing fish back into Alaska’s icy water.

Our tester liked that she could fit layers under the waders to stay warm and still had great range of motion. This is not usually the case when you pack your kids into neoprene. The waders feature CaddisDry breathable technology, attached gravel guards, inside and outside pockets, wader belt, and a repair kit. The feet are high-density neoprene for comfort and warmth.
