Even with the usually enthusiastic Arctic grayling, sometimes it is necessary to fish a small fly sub-surface to have much success. From gaudy attractors to subtle soft-hackles and flymphs, such flies on a wet-fly swing are often effective when dry flies fail to produce.

The boating community is slowly but surely converting its marine deep-cycle batteries from lead acid or AGM to lithium, specifically, lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4). There are many advantages to making the switch, and some important safety considerations as well. Editor George Krumm recently made the switch to power his Riptide Terrova QUEST and thinks that in general, the additional cost of LiFePO4 batteries is well worth it.
