Sportsman’s Warehouse Contest
by Marcus Weiner 40

Cortney Reed of Rock Springs, Wyoming, won the 2019 Sportsman’s Warehouse Contest and invited her husband, Rod, to join Publisher Marcus Weiner on the Kenai Peninsula in August for an angling cornucopia based out of Mark Burner’s Alaskan Fishing Adventures.  On the menu were sockeye and silver salmon in freshwater and halibut, coho and kings in the salt.

Reel Action Alaska Lodge
by Melissa Norris 48

Topping the list as a must do for Publisher Melissa Norris, spey casting on the Kanektok to king salmon last summer was even more fun than she imagined. King after king came to hand on the Chosen plus a wide variety of healthy fish and a hog rainbow. Read about her adventure with Reel Action Alaska Lodge.

Leeches, Flesh and 30-inch Naknek Rainbows
by George Krumm 54

The Naknek is the most consistent producer of 30-plus-inch rainbow trout in Alaska. George Krumm has journeyed to the Naknek each fall for several year running, and has landed fish in excess of 30 inches on each trip. This year he once again fished out of Katmai Trophy Lodge and landed a 31.5-inch fish, continuing his streak. Here, he shares his observations regarding method, gear, flies and expectations to help you enjoy similar success, should you venture to the Naknek for some fall swinging.

Juneau
by Terry W. Sheely 62

Alaska’s capitol city is easy to get to, has a modest road system, and surprisingly varied and excellent angling opportunities from shore or ship, by airplane or car.  As Terry writes, “…with multiple harbors, a fleet of charter and guide boats, half-day floatplane fly outs to smokin’ hot salmon streams, local freshwater tumbles with trout, Dolly Varden and seasonal salmon, and guided urban shore fishing.” That’s Juneau. Fish town.
