A bonus at the 2020 Great Alaska Sportsman Show is the free seminars and workshops throughout the weekend. Come learn about fresh and saltwater fishing, how to use bear spray, log cabin basics, field prep for bear capes, and the list goes on. Once again the docket includes a variety of knowledgeable speakers including Alaska hunting and fishing experts, top vendors, nonprofit agencies and representatives of the Alaska Department of Fish & Game.

Attend exciting presentations on flyfishing for trout, grayling and Dolly Varden char. There will be a presentation on how to catch king salmon, sure to benefit anglers after the state’s largest salmon species. Check the schedule posted at the show for hourly casting demos on the west side of the Mezzanine level. There will be workshops on how to fish with jigs in Resurrection Bay and Prince William Sound and how to deep-drop fish with electric reels. Come learn how to catch more king and coho salmon with downriggers. Learn the latest techniques for catching more halibut by understanding tides, when and where to go, baits, lures, colors and fishing techniques.

In addition to fishing topics, see hands-on, outdoor seminars on bear spray basics and log-cabin building. The Office of Boating Safety is back to talk about coldwater survival and Russell Knight tells all on how to handle bear in the field. Be sure to attend our brand new workshop on heating with wood. Learn about the right way to operate a wood heater, fuel management, and future clean-burning technologies. The Department of Natural Resources Land Sales Team will discuss Alaska state land offerings.

Keynote Speaker: Robert J. “Bobby” Hart

A fourth-generation gunsmith, Bobby Hart is the owner of Hart Custom Rifles, which is based in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania. This small, family-run business is known worldwide to the hunting, shooting, military and law enforcement industries for their long-range shooting and hunting, custom rifle building and reloading. The company also offers an accuracy package that has been shown to greatly increase the reliability of many factory rifles.

Hart will be presenting his seminar, “Taking Your Rifle to the Next Level of Accuracy” all three days at the Great Alaska Sportsman Show. This seminar is focused toward hunters of all ages and skill levels who want to make “the shot of a lifetime.” The seminar will include discussion on all aspects of the rifle including barrel, crown, trigger, stock, bedding and muzzle brake. Hart also will talk about scopes, windage and ammunition.

Bobby Hart has a passion for long-range shooting. Hart has shot over 13 groundhogs at over 1,000 yards. His longest hit was an elk at 1,900 yards. He has taken 60-inch African Kudu at over 500 yards. Hart is a five-time Jr. Bench Rest Champion, is the 1986 300-yard heavy varmint champ, the 2000 1,000-yard World Open Champion in Light Gun, registered the high score in the 2001 IBS 1,000-yard International Championships and is a member of the Varmint Hunters’ 1,500 Yard Club.

Hart works with several television programs including Sportsmen of North America, Northwood Adventures, Driven TV, Bass Pro Outdoor World, Bullseye Adventures and Southern Woods Adventures. He has shot with and is involved with industry names like Allen Treadwell, Pat Reeves, Keith Powell (Sportsmen of North America), Bob Fulkrod, Jerry Martin, Brenda Valentine and Bob Walker.
