2015 Fish Alaska ECA: Ice Fishing
1. Polar Fire Deluxe Tightline Reel
With a 2-to-1 gear ratio for fast line retrieval and a 4-bearing drive system, we loved having this reel along on the ice this past year. A machined aluminum frame and spool mean it’s lightweight yet durable and the positive drag system allowed us to tackle some heavy lakers and still come out on top.
2. Frabill Ice Spider Tip-Up
Compact in design, Frabill’s affordable and sleek Ice Spider is easy to transport, deploy and redeploy, making you that much more versatile on the ice, able to travel to where the fish are at a moment’s notice. The spool sets low in the hole and away from refreezing skim ice.
3. HT Enterprises Accucast Wide Arbor Ultralight Spinning Reel
The Accucast Ultralight offers a tremendous value in a supremely lightweight, front-drag spinning reel. These reels are perfect for ice fishing with features such as an extended reel foot for easier use with the sliding rings found on some ice rod handles, longer necks to leave room for use with gloves or mittens and an increased angle, which puts the spool in line with the guides of shorter ice rods.
